Spring Fling Peninsula Run
March 30, 2008
If BAMA ever had a showcase event for new members, this would be it. On Sunday, March 30th, an
enthusiastic group of BAMA members met in Palo Alto for the annual Spring Fling Run,
one of our favorite drives through the Peninsula hills.
With 30 Miatas
and 37 Miata owners--among them several new members who were welcomed
to their first BAMA run--this was one of the best attended events in recent years.
For the first time in recent memory, enough run leaders were available to split the group in two.
Kaitlyn and a dozen hard core drivers took off first, while Vice President Ty Winn led for the second
group--those who wanted to enjoy the scenery a bit while still driving in a spirited Miata style.
Despite the large turnout, great teamwork by Kaitlyn and Ty kept everyone close and on course.

Although this event--like every other BAMA event this year--was met with bright sunshine, it may
have been the coolest run since last November. Jackets were de riguer, and during the drive up the coast
more than a few heaters were operating at full blast. In traditional BAMA fashion, however, all tops
were down at the start, and most stayed that way all day long.
No excuses were needed for the amazing roads and sweeping vistas encountered along the route. Green
fields dominated along the back roads. In the twisties, golden sunlight filtered down
through tall eucalyptus and redwoods as Miatas sprinted through the shade, and waves sparkled along the
coast as the caravan rolled up the PCH.
For the most part traffic was light, and only a few segments
of the run were marred by slower cars. Adding to the scenic adventure was a sumptuous lunch
at Costanoa, a beautiful resort/restaurant off Highway 1 near Pescadero. Altogether a very fun day.
