Why should you join BAMA?
BAMA is all about driving our Miatas safely. BAMA hosts several events each year, including scenic group drives along Bay Area back roads. These

drives through the hills or up the coast normally take about three or four hours on a Saturday or Sunday morning. Rest breaks are taken every hour or so, and the drive usually ends with lunch at a friendly, reasonably priced restaurant. Highlights of every driving event include great scenery and a line of colorful Miatas stretching out along the route.

Driving events meet thirty minutes prior to the departure time, and we encourage everyone to start with a full tank of gas. Arrivals at the start are typically greeted with a liability release to be signed by both the driver and passenger. It's important that you read and understand the full release. Just before the start, the group leader holds a short drivers meeting to discuss safety and other issues.

A word about safety. Drivers meetings cover this to some degree, but the wording in the liability release says it all--BAMA does not allow any participant in a BAMA event to drive beyond the posted speed limit. If we're holding up too many cars, we'll pull over as a group. Any participant on a BAMA event observed to exceed the speed limit may be suspended from further BAMA events for a minimum of six months. Anyone attending BAMA events is strongly advised to seek the advice of their attorney and their own personal insurance company as to liability and coverage prior to attending these events.

Most driving events start and stop near freeway exits, but the only way to find the exact starting location is by emailing the event organizer (always listed with the event info). RSVPs are almost always required for BAMA events. These aren't "secret" drives, but to stay organized we need to know who's going to be there. You don't have to be a BAMA member to join us on one of our group drives, but we certainly encourage it--membership is only $30 per year, and well worth it. Members of other Miata clubs are always welcome on BAMA events, too.
Annual Events
Miatapalooza
BAMA's premier event each year is our annual Miatapalooza, a celebration of all things Miata. This one-day event typically features a car show with awards, vendor exhibits, tech talks, raffle, and catered lunch. A small entry fee is charged for the festivities, but BAMA membership isn't required.
BAMA Tech Talk

One of several events hosted by Rick Weldon's PR Motorsports in Hayward, CA, BAMA's January tech talk features a Q&A session with Rick, plus a guest speaker. Rick provides not only his spacious facilities for the occasion, but also provides sandwiches and drinks for all. A nominal entry fee is charged, but BAMA membership isn't required.
Shine 'n Swap
![]() |
Held during the spring or summer at PR Motorsports, BAMA's annual Shine n' Swap is a chance to show off your Miata and maybe pick up a bargain or two on some aftermarket Miata gear. PRM's Rick Weldon usually tries to have on hand a few specialists in the art of automotive detailing, including paintless dent repair and windshield repair. No entry fee, and BAMA membership is not required.
Miata Roundup
![]() |
Also held during the summer, BAMA's annual Miata Roundup is a combination car show, raffle, and barbeque. Most of the morning is spent judging the cars--participants get to be judges, too--and after lunch prizes is awarded. A great chance to see all kinds of Miatas and all kinds of Miata modifications.
That's just a brief summary of what we do in BAMA. Check out the events page on this website for a look at some of the events BAMA has held over the past few years. Then come out and join us for a little Miata fun of your own.
