Take me to Moss Landing for Fish & Chips! Drive
Well Saturday’s drive started off dark and cloudy day in Los Gatos, but periodically throughout the day we had lots of sunshine and a few light scattered showers throughout. Even with the possibility of rain, we still had 16 cars and a total of 24 drivers and passengers. We had more than one car arriving at the starting point and continued with "top down" the entire day showing true Miata Style.
For some, it was a tops-up day, but by the time we finished lunch, most of the tops were down and enjoying the wonderful sunshine. We started on Highway 17 to Santa Cruz but took a well-known beautiful alternative way to the Coast via Summit Road and Soquel Road, which provides some moderate twisties and great woodland views. We then proceeded through a beautiful valley where we saw Farms where many of our local flowers are grown. We had lunch at Phil’s Fish Market & Eatery, where everyone enjoyed a wonderful seafood lunch. Whether it was fish & chips or burgers & fries, it was definitely worth the light showers it took to get there. Nice pick for a restaurant, Peter, well done! Special thanks to Charles Gorgen, for the awesome pictures he took of the surf behind Phil’s. Since BAMA is also about seeing sights we took an extra 30 minutes after lunch to just enjoy each other and our cars, going out to the sand or looking at the great boats at Moss Landing.
We were soon on the road again heading towards the Great Artichoke Restaurant where we took a brief stop, but we were soon on the road again and off to our next stop down by the Uvas Reservoir. Our drive on 152 provided us beautiful views of water areas, sometime with the water being on the road from the recent storms, nice twisties, few OTM's and bicyclist, and many gorgeous seas of green from the spring grasses.
At our next stop, several people were admiring the new Mazdaspeed front-end cowl on Bob Sonnenfelt’s 2008 Stormy Blue Miata. Now the question is, just how long will it be before other people have the same cowl on their 2006 True Red Miata, huh, Sally.
We then headed out for more beautiful roads with many more local reservoirs and lots of twisties. We ended up at Peet’s Coffee shop in Los Gatos for some well-deserved hot coffee.
I'm sure we all want to thank Peter Law for putting this South Bay Area Drive in addition to leading the event. Doing this event under "rain or shine" rules seemed to work well and added another new interesting dimension.
